Ungru Kivi

Stone work

The Ungru Kivi is known to have been used for construction and stoning since the 13th century.

The western portal of Ridala church made of Ungru stone and trapezoidal grave markers in the churchyard date back to this century. During the following centuries, Ungru limestone has been used for constructing many Estonian churches and manor buildings. Ungru limestone has also been valued as a monumental stone. The church of Haapsalu Bishop’s Castle, Ridala and Martna church are decorated with Ungru limestone portals, consoles, transverse arches and baptismal stones.
